Co-op News

Welcome to all the new members of the Melody Lane Co-op and thank you to everyone that switched over from the old email list. I am really excited about the direction the co-op is heading!

Many of you have expressed interest in participating in workshops so I went ahead and added some tentative dates to our calendar on the About page. First up is Bone Broth. If anyone has experience with making bone broths, I could use your help. I have plenty of practice making chicken stock but I would like to get someone to share their experience with beef and other types of broths. Email me if you are interested in helping me with an upcoming workshop.

FRESH & LOCAL

Fresh & Local items come from local farms and are available for pick up the Thursday after you place your order.

New this week:

Moss Hill Farm
www.MossHillFarm.net
Floyd Keisler sells his vegetables through a CSA program. (What is a CSA?) These are the freshest, most nutrient-dense vegetables that you will find anywhere. The farm is located in nearby Milton, Ga and almost everything we get has been picked that same day! The 2013 CSA will begin in April and he will deliver to my house again this year – if we can get enough takers. If you are interested in signing up, you’d better do it soon. Word has gotten out about how awesome his veggies are so he expects to sell out early this year. You can download a CSA Application or go to his website www.MossHillFarm.net for more details. You will have to mail your application and payment directly to Floyd at Moss Hill Farm. His contact information can be found at the top of the application and on his website.

The 2012 CSA is over and with this mild winter Floyd still has some vegetables growing out in the field. For a limited time, he is offering “shares” on a week-by-week basis. A “share” is a big basket of whatever is currently growing. You don’t get to choose the individual items, you just have to take what he gives you. There are usually at least 10 different types of vegetables in a share. Last week we got carrots, Joi Choi, collards, turnips, broccoli head with greens, Napa cabbage, Swiss chard, mustard greens, green onions, and arugula. I have added Moss Hill Vegetables shares to The Market – listed under FRESH & LOCAL.

GROUP BUYS

Group Buy items usually come from farther away. We get a better price by buying in bulk and splitting shipping.

New this week:

Green Pasture
www.GreenPasture.org
Green Pasture Products, including Fermented Cod Liver Oil and High Vitamin Butter Oil, are now listed in The Market. This is a pre-order, meaning we don’t have any of these items currently in stock so you will not be able to pick them up this Thursday. At the end of the day Tuesday I will tally up all of our orders and place one big group order with Green Pasture. It will take a week or two for it to come in. I will notify you via email once it arrives. You can come the following Thursday during normal co-op pick up hours or email me to schedule another time to pick up.

You must pay for your Green Pasture order by 7:00pm this Thursday. The easiest way to pay is with a credit card when you place your order. I can also accept cash or check at my house any time between now and 7:00pm on Thursday. There is a locked drop-box in my carport where you can leave your payment if I am not home.

Green Pasture is still limiting the number of Butter Oil containing products we can order at a time. Our buying club is limited to a total of 12 Butter Oil products per month. That includes Butter Oil and Cod Liver Oil/Butter Oil blends. Unfortunately, the most popular Cinnamon flavor blend is out of stock right now anyway. In The Market, each listing will show how many of that item is currently available. If the number is 0, either Green Pasture is sold out or we have already reached our limit. Everything in the market is sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Please be courteous to your fellow co-op members and do not order too many of the limited items so that everyone can have a chance to get something.

Coming Soon:

Mother Earth Meats
www.MotherEarthMeats.com
I do not have an exact date yet but we will be ordering from Mother Earth Meats again soon, hopefully by the end of the month. Mother Earth Meats is located in Tennessee and provides many different types of pasture-raised and free-range meats including chicken, beef, pork, bison, lamb, duck, and more.
