CO-OP NEWS

My family has been battling a cold/flu for the past two weeks so I have gotten a little behind on co-op stuff. I usually answer emails and write the weblog/newsletter at night after everyone has gone to bed but lately all I want to do is sleep! In case you forgot to order this week due to lack of the usual co-op email, I will keep The Market open until 4:00pm this afternoon.

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have a hard time asking for help. I like to work independently and most of the time I can tackle anything I set my mind to. This week has reminded me that the co-op is supposed to be a cooperative effort. I know that I need help but I am not sure exactly what I need or who would be willing to step in. Therefore, I would like to call a co-op meeting at my house on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 6:00pm. At this meeting I will explain exactly what it takes to run the co-op, show you how the backend of the website works, and we can discuss ideas for the future of the co-op. Hopefully some of you will identify areas that you can help out in. This meeting is open to all co-op members so even if you don’t think you have the time or ability to help on an ongoing basis, you are welcome to come just to see how the co-op works and voice your opinion on future orders or events.

FRESH & LOCAL

Destiny Organics

I have decided to discontinue the Destiny Organics boxes. The quality was good, it just takes a lot of time (and gas) to pick them up every week and the price wasn’t that great. I am looking forward to getting more local farmers to post their produce in The Market as the growing season gets going. In the mean time, I will share with you a couple of other sources I have found for produce. They are not affiliated with the Melody Lane Co-op in any way, but I have tried them myself in the past and have been very pleased with their products.

GROUP BUYS

Mother Earth Meats

I bought some extra cuts of chicken and pork from Mother Earth Meats last time we ordered from them. I have finally added them to The Market under the category GROUP BUYS. Even if you have already ordered this week, you are welcome to place another order. All of the Mother Earth Meats products currently listed will be availabe for pick up this Thursday.

Green Pasture

I have a love/hate relationship with Green Pasture. Their products are awesome. So awesome that they are in very high demand. Most of the time they have to limit how many bottles any one person (or group) can buy at a time. Whenever they lift those restrictions the products sell out very quickly. That makes it very difficult to order from them since you never really know what you are going to get. We are going on three weeks now since we placed a group order and we have only gotten half of what we ordered. They say the rest will ship as soon as it is back in stock. I will email each of you individually when your items have arrived.

It may be a while before we order from them again but the owner of Green Pasture will be a guest speaker at the local Weston A. Price Conference on March 16th. He will also have some of their products for sale at the conference for a huge discount. You will get the best deals if you can pay cash, so if you are planning on attending the conference be sure to bring cash!

WORKSHOPS & EVENTS

Below is a list of upcoming co-op events. I will try to get them added to The Market as soon as I can. I am also thinking about using a service like evite to keep track of RSVP’s. I will let you know what I come up with. Go ahead and mark your calendars, more details will be availabe soon.
