CO-OP NEWS

Another busy week for the co-op!  Wednesday we are taking a tour of Moss Hill Farm. Thursday we will be making homemade soap and lotion. And Saturday is the big meat delivery from Mother Earth Meats. In addition to that, I will be following up on a few leads for new vendors including coffee, medicinal herbs, and possibly raw goat milk. Stay tuned!

Are you following the Healthy Life Summit? All of the speakers and topics fall right in line with what I believe the Melody Lane Co-op is all about. Each day there are 5 new interviews with the biggest names in the Paleo and Weston Price community. Some of the presenters include Joel Salatin, Sally Fallon Morell, Sarah Pope, Donna Gates, and Chris Kresser, just to name a few. You can listen for free online for a limited time. Go check it out.

FRESH & LOCAL

I have just posted homemade soap in The Market. I made this soap myself using beef tallow (from Mother Earth Meats), coconut oil, olive oil, water, and pure lye. Nothing fancy, there is no color or fragrance added, just your basic old-fashioned bar of soap. I imagine this is the kind of soap they used in Little House on the Prairie. soap

Winter CSA Moss Hill Farm ~ www.MossHillFarm.net

Our vegetable CSA starts on April 11th. You can read all the details here. Fill out a CSA Application and drop it off at my house with your deposit before Wednesday to reserve your share for the upcoming season. We will be taking a tour of Moss Hill Farm on Wednesday, March 27th. You are welcome to join us even if you do not plan on participating in the CSA. Hope to see you there!

From Mimi’s Mountain Home ~ www.FMMHome.com

I am loving all the goodies I got in my Mimi’s First Market package last week! They have a new special in The Market this week “A Special Easter Treat” package includes 4 bath bombs for $5.

East West Farm ~ www.EastWestFarm.com

Looking for fresh, local, pasture-raised, soy-free chicken? I highly recommend East West Farm in Marietta. Owner, Daniel Seedorf, was one of the farmers I interviewed for the Farmers’ Panel at the recent Weston A. Price Conference. He is committed to treating his animals right and producing the highest quality food possible. His chickens spend their days scratching and pecking for bugs out in the pasture and are supplemented with clean water and organic, soy-free grains from Coutryside Organics (the same brand of feed I give to my own chickens).

Daniel will be processing chickens at the farm once a month starting in May and you pick them up fresh that same day. Tentative dates are: May 4, June 29, July 20, August 17, September 21, and October 19. All orders must be placed in advance at their website (http://eastwestfarm.com/pastured-poultry/). Individual chickens sell for $5.50/lb but if you sign up for their chicken CSA before April 1st the price is only $4.95/lb. I have already signed up for the CSA myself so I know I will be going to the farm on processing days to pick up my own chicken. If you would like me to bring yours back to Roswell with me I will be happy to, just email me to let me know.

It’s a little early to be thinking about Thanksgiving turkey but this is the time of year that farmers buy their baby turkeys in order to have them fully grown by fall. Daniel just got his turkey chicks in and is taking orders on those as well. You will find the turkey order form on the same page (http://eastwestfarm.com/pastured-poultry/) just scroll all the way down to the bottom.

Mother Earth Meats ~ www.MotherEarthMeats.com

Our Mother Earth Meats delivery is this Saturday (March 30) between 11:00am – 12:00pm. Those of you that have ordered in the past know that it is hard to pinpoint the exact time they will get here because they are driving all the way down from Tennessee and have a couple of stops before ours. They are still working on getting all of our orders packed up. I will send you your exact totals just as soon as I have them. If you can not be here from 11:00am – 12:00pm, please make arrangements to drop off your cooler before 11:00am on Saturday. Payment is due at the time of delivery so you can leave cash or a check with your cooler OR, for first time, Mother Earth Meats is offering the option to pay with a credit card over the phone. If you need to do that just let me know and I will give you the phone number to call.
